The Beating Cancer Plan and Harm Reduction: Priorities for the new Mandate
At the dawn of the new mandate, this event provides a timely opportunity to revisit the EU’s Beating Cancer Plan. Europe accounts for a tenth of the world’s population, but a quarter of the world’s cancer cases. Should nothing to be done, the number of deaths from cancer are projected to rise further. Against this backdrop, the Commission’s plan set an ambitious course to reduce cases and improve treatment outcomes by 2030. However, as the political landscape evolves, it is essential to assess progress and explore the next steps.
Harm reduction remains a vital component of cancer prevention strategies. This event will focus in particular on policies aimed reducing harm related to consumers’ diet, to alcohol consumption, and to smoking including also the smoke free environment discussion. These risk factors are significant contributors to cancer incidence across the EU, and reducing their negative impact is critical to improving public health.
Join the Medical Observatory for Harm Reduction (MOHRE) at this timely event to discuss these topics with leading policy-makers, healthcare professionals, researchers and think tanks, to assess the current landscape, share best practices, and identify new strategies for effective harm reduction in cancer prevention.
